Green Streets

The Greenstreets program in New York is designed to create green spaces in urban areas to accommodate the city’s growing population. It is a program used to convert medians, vacant lots into green spaces with shade trees and ground cover to create a healthy environment for those living in urban areas.
The population of New York is rapidly increasing and accommodating this has become increasingly difficult and is potentially hazardous to the natural environment. The Greenstreets project has allowed flexibility in terms of creating sustainable spaces. The objective of the plan is to create open spaces, decrease global warming, provide clean water through a natural means as well as achieve accessibility of clean and not polluted air.
Several pocket parks have been created in each of the five boroughs of New York and has improved the quality of life in these areas.
