New Urbanism

The Congress for New Urbanism is an organization that devotes itself to the promotion of New Urbanist practices. It is the leading organization that is involved with the promotion of sustainable communities.

New Urbanism is an urban design movement that promotes walkable neighborhood and discourages the usage of automobiles. It encourages mixed communities that encompass residential and commercial use simultaneously. It does this by many principles and concepts such as building developments with driveways towards the back of the house as to promote less vehicle usage on the streets.

The idea of New Urbanism allows those who are dependent in a traditional such as those who are unable to drive most often children and the elderly are now able to live in a development that ‘has it all.’

Not only does New Urbanism advocate for environmentally friendly practices but it promotes healthier living in terms of tackling obesity and healthcare problems.
